Title: Earth, Air, Fire Minus Water
Dimensions: 23 x 70 inches
Artist Statement: In 5 BC, the Greek philosopher Empedocles of Sicily, and later Aristotle, developed the theory that all matter is comprised of the four elements of earth, air, fire and water. What would happen to our lives if you removed the element of water? I've used parts of a California poppy to explore the four elements minus water.
Materials and Techniques: Hand painted silk crepe de chine using Roketsu-zome and gutta-serti techniques with French acid dyes. Pieced with Indian dupioni silk border.
