LINDA GASS
BIOGRAPHY: Linda Gass makes art that is informed by her activist passions. Her work focuses on creating awareness of the struggle for water resources in California and the American West. Growing up during the drought years in California made Linda keenly aware of the preciousness of water, an irreplaceable element for all life. She has done research on the history and practice of water management and hopes to use the lure of beauty in her work to encourage people to look at hard issues.

Linda made the switch from software development to textile artist 11 years ago. She graduated from Stanford University with a BS in Mathematics and an MS in Computer Science and worked in the software industry for 10 years. She then began painting silk and making art quilts and now exhibits her work nationally in galleries and museums. Her work is published in several books and magazines including Art Quilts: A Celebration, Fiberarts Design Book 7, Surface Design, and Batik for Artists and Quilters. Her quilt "After the Gold Rush" won the Quilt National Rookie Award in 1999. She recently appeared in two episodes of "Simply Quilts" on Home & Garden Television. She travels extensively in the wilderness areas of the western United States where she finds much of the inspiration for her work. She was a founding member of The Main Gallery in Redwood City from 2000 - 2003 and is an active community volunteer, serving on the boards of the Textile Arts Council of the DeYoung Museum and the Black Rock Arts Foundation.
