MARY RUTH SMITH
BIOGRAPHY: Mary Ruth Smith, a Professor of Art at Baylor University, has been a teacher and an exhibiting artist for approximately 30 years. During this time, her work in fiber has been in numerous national and international juried and invitational exhibitions. Recent exhibitions include: Quilt National 2005, Pojagi and Beyond Invitational, Bunbury, Australia, Fiber Directions 2005, Small Expressions 2005, Mini Textile International Exhibition, Kherson, Ukraine, and the 3rd International Biennial of Women in the Textile Arts, Valencia, Venezuela. Exhibitions for 2006 include: Quilt Visions, Transformations: Artists Working with Fiber, Festival of Quilts, Birmingham, England, Traversing Fibers, El Centro College, Dallas, and Man+Woman=Creation, San Jose, Costa Rica.

During her career she has taught workshops on many fiber-related techniques to a variety of lay and professional organizations. Most recently, she taught a pre-conference workshop for the International Surface Design Conference and at the Fibres West Conference, Bunbury, Australia. She served as judge for the Handweavers League of Oklahoma biannual exhibition in May 2006 and taught a workshop on a variety of ways to use stitch at a fibers conference in Costa Rica in September 2006.

She holds a Ph.D. in Art Education from Florida State University and an M.F.A. in Fabric Design from the University of Georgia.
