Title: River Scarves
Dimensions: 12 x 60 inches each
Artist Statement: The shape that water carves through the landscape is based on the grade of the land. Water creates tight, rhythmic meanders like the ones in these scaves when the grade is 10% or less.
Materials and Techniques: 100% silk chiffon handpainted using an ancient Japanese technique of wax resist dyeing called Roketsu-zome . The process dates back to 710 AD and was used to add patterning to kimono silks. Layers of silk dyes and special smoooth wax are applied with a brush to create the designs.
