Step 1: Dampen the entire piece of silk with water and then apply a few colors of dyes sparsely to the design. Blend them in so that they are lighter tint than their saturated color. Wait for the silk to dry and apply wax with a brush over the colored areas. Step 2: Dampen the entire piece of silk with water and then apply a more colors of dyes to the design. Blend them in so that they are lighter tint than their saturated color. Where dyes are applied on top of one another, they will be darker. Wait for the silk to dry and apply wax over the new colored areas. Step 3: Dampen the entire piece of silk with water and then apply all colors of dyes to the design. This time don't blend - more saturated colors are desired at this stage. Wait for the silk to dry and apply wax over the colored areas. Step 4: Paint orange dye on the silk where wax has not been applied. Wait for this to dry and apply a band of wax to define the "soil" line. Step 5: Paint blue dye on the silk where was has not been applied in the area that represents the "soil." This completes the dyeing and waxing process.
