This is the first step in the dyeing process, after the silk has been stretched on the frame and the design has been transferred to the fabric.

Dampen the entire piece of silk evenly with water.

Apply a few colors of dye sparsely to the design. Blend them in using a special brush designed for "scrubbing" so that they are a lighter tint than their natural saturated color.

Wait for the silk to dry and apply wax with a brush over the dyed strokes.
