Carbonated, Frozen Food and Mosquitos!

We spent our fist night outside of the preserve, at Afton Canyon where the Mojave River surfaces for the length of the canyon (the Mojave travels underground for many stretches). Even with the low rain, this rare desert water was flowing and had its downside: swarms of mosquitos. Big mistake #1: we didn’t think to bring mosquito repellent to the desert.

Since we wouldn't be near convenience stores, we opted for dry ice in our coolers - big mistake #2! It froze almost everything (see top soda can) and the few items that didn't freeze got carbonated - ever eaten carbonated apples or celery sticks? I don't think the foodie restaurants are going to be offering these any time soon.
