Rivers provide us with life sustaining water for our social, economic and natural life. Over the past 150 years, almost all of California's rivers have been harnessed behind dams for mining, agriculture, flood control and urban growth. Our great challenge lies within balancing the development of these river resources to meet human needs with their role in maintaining healthy ecosystems for both wildlife and humans. This artwork uses the stitching metaphor of "mending" to convey my wish to restore some of these rivers to their free flowing and wild state.
