Solitude and Vistas

After many visits to the classic desert areas of California (Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Anza Borrego), it was time to explore Mojave National Preserve. We were pleasantly surprised by the solitude (hardly anyone visits it) and how different it is from the other deserts we’ve visited. Much of the preserve looks like this, broad open valleys and basins, surrounded by rugged mountain ranges.
