Title: Ghost of Wetlands Past
Dimensions: 35” h x 35” w x 1½” d installed
Bullseye sheet glass, glass frit, copper, sandblasting
The Ghost of Wetlands Past installation documents the loss of San Francisco Bay wetlands near Palo Alto juxtaposed with surviving wetlands. Multiple layers of fused glass show filled & developed former wetlands (using copper inclusions & sandblasting) next to existing wetlands (glass frit painting). The designs are based on present day aerial photographs and historical United States Coast Survey (USCS) coastline maps from 1850-60.
